Last May, we recommended five healthy margaritas to make at home to celebrate Cinco de Mayo or to enjoy anytime over what promises to be a steamy summer. This year, we're a little tired and want someone else to do the work for us. In no particular order, here are our seven staff picks for the best spots to enjoy a margarita on the rocks (or blended) right here in Orange County. The best way to enjoy a margarita (or two) is to designate a driver. SOL Cocina Not only is the food at SOL Cocina amazing and (usually) healthy, but their margarita selection is incredible. Their housemade sour mix is a far cry from the syrupy concoction you can purchase pre-mixed at the grocery store. Plus, you have the choice of mixing your drink with skinny margarita mix if you're looking to shave off a few extra calories to save room for food. CINCO @ SOL begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning! SOL Cocina is located at 251 E. Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach. Javier’s Whether you're a sucker for a classic margarita on the rocks or willing to order something a little more adventurous, you probably need to stop for a drink at Javier's. All of their margaritas are hand shaken and served on the rocks. If you are looking for a fresh drink that won't ruin your healthy habits, try the "Margarita Organica," a organic tequila, organic agave nectar and fresh squeezed lime juice. Simple and refreshing! Javier's is located at the 45 Fortune Drive, #400, in the Irvine Spectrum. Javier's Crystal Cove is located at 7832 E. Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach. Rose Canyon Cantina and Grill Start your Sunday off right with breakfast starting at 11 a.m. and order a side of margarita! The simplest margaritas can often be the best and Rose Cantina keeps it as simple as possible. Plus, they also have skinny margarita to help you keep to your healthy nutrition plan. Rose Canyon Cantina and Grill is located at 20722 Rose Canyon Rd, in Trabuco Canyon. Gabbi Patrick (Gabbi's) If you haven't been to Gabbi's yet, you are definitely missing out; it's early in the morning and our stomachs are growling just thinking about the menu. For your margarita selection, you can choose from tamarindo, guava, strawberry, raspberry, mango or midori melon, shaken or blended to perfection. We also recommend the jalepeno pepino margarita if you like your cocktail with a little kick. Gabbi's is located at 141 S. Glassell in Orange. Mi Casa Mi Casa in Rancho Santa Margarita and Costa Mesa are celebrating five days of Cinco de Mayo so you best come prepared! With everything from specials on tequila shots and skinny margaritas to $1 tacos, come get your fill of margaritas and awesome food starting on Friday, May 3. And if the specials aren't doing it for you (we don't see why they wouldn't), they have over two dozen margarita options and flavors to choose from. Mi Casa is located at 22322 El Paseo in Rancho Santa Margarita and 296 E. 17th St. in Costa Mesa.
Taco Rosa Taco Rosa has a double happy hour! Perfect! Yes, you can order skinny margaritas and organic margaritas, but what about a "Grand Flaquita?" If you love being healthy and have a penchant for Cadillac margaritas, this is a must order. Or, if pina coladas are more your style, but you still want to get into the margarita spirit, try the coconut margarita for a mashup of your favorite flavors in one delicious sip! Taco Rosa is located at 13792 Jamboree Rd. in Irvine and 2632 San Miguel Rd. in Newport Beach. El Cholo If you're out with friends, El Cholo is a great stop for your margarita needs thanks to pitchers! El Cholo is located at 840 E Whittier Blvd. in La Habra and 5465 Alton Pkwy in Irvine. Where are your favorite spots?
