If you haven’t heard by now, acai bowls are an antioxidant powerhouse. From the superfood properties of the acai berry to the fresh fruit and granola on top, these bowls are a perfect way to get your healthy omegas for the day and enjoy a nutrient-rich snack. Sambazon, the company best known for their acai smoothie packs and acai-based smoothies is sponsoring the first ever National Acai Bowl Day on Saturday, April 6. To celebrate this inaugural event, Sambazon’s two acai cafes, as well as acai cafes across Orange County (and the U.S.), are offering delicious acai bowls at 50 percent off! To find a participating café near you, be sure to visit Sambazon.com/locator. Don’t have an acai café near you but still want to participate in the fun? Make an acai bowl at home! Sambazon sells frozen acai puree packs at many local supermarkets, and all you’ll need is some fresh fruit and a blender to create your own bowl. The acai puree is unsweetened and goes great with pretty much anything – I recommend adding some banana and blueberries to your puree, and then topping your bowl with some fresh coconut, mango, kiwi, strawberry - the sky is the limit! For more acai bowl ideas, be sure to check out some great recipes over at Sambazon.com/recipes. Allison Hecht is an Orange County native who is passionate about good food and healthy living.
