Sweet Potato Bites: Healthy green smoothies

Posted on January 02 2014

Happy New Year!  If you are like most people you are probably looking forward to some healthier eating after a month of delicious holiday indulgences.   One of my favorite ways to get back on track is to make a healthy green smoothie. Green smoothies are great because you can pack them full of fruits and vegetables along with some added healthy fat for a healthy breakfast or even satisfying snack. Below are a few of my favorite healthy smoothie recipes to help you start 2014 off right! Citrus green smoothie Ingredients: 8 ounces coconut 2 clementine oranges 1 cup diced pineapple 1 cup chopped kale Handful of ice Directions:
  1. Place all ingredients in the blender.
  2. Blend until kale pieces are nice and smooth.
  3. Pour smoothie into a glass and enjoy.
Almond butter and jelly green smoothie Ingredients: 8 ounces unsweetened almond milk 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries 2 tablespoons almond butter 1 cup chopped kale Handful of ice Directions:
  1. Place all ingredients in the blender.
  2. Blend until kale pieces are nice and smooth and the almond butter is mixed in.
Tastes just like a pb&j but healthier! Kale-pineapple-avocado smoothie Ingredients: 8 ounces unsweetened almond milk 1 cup chopped pineapple ½ avocado 1 cup kale Handful of ice Directions:
  1. Place all ingredients in the blender
  2. Blend until kale pieces are smooth.
The avocado adds a nice creamy texture to this smoothie and is a great way to add some healthy fat!   Allison Hecht is an Orange County native who is passionate about good food and healthy living.
