In preparation for the launch of Trailer Boutique, I set off to New York City to attend the 2016 Winter NY Now show. For those of you that are not familiar with the NY Now show, it is “the” market for home, lifestyle and gift products and sellers. With over 1,000 exhibitors, and more than 25,000 buyers in attendance, the retailer, trade only, event is held twice a year at the Javits Convention Center in midtown Manhattan, NYC. A trade only event, only buyers, media, sponsors and exhibitors are invited to attend.
Running over the course of four days, the show hosts brands spanning across home goods, lifestyle brands, and handmade artisans "industries." Spending over two days and at least 10 miles on the Apple Watch, it was an educational, fun and worthwhile experience. While there were dozens of very large, well-known brands, I truly enjoyed seeking out and talking with brands that I envisioned as a great fit for the new Trailer Boutique concept. I loved the smaller, simpler, clearly "built with love" businesses.
Many of which I will share with you in future blogs, so please stay tuned!
If you are a brand looking to build your wholesale pipeline, this is THE show you need to be at. After interviewing several business owners, they unanimously said that this show is worth it. From the interviews I had, most brands declared that they “broke even” at their first show. But, if they hung in, their second and third shows created significant business revenue in all cases. I actually talked to a few brands that credited the NY Now show as the top reason their business has sustained and is as successful as it is.
Calling all boutique owners, entrepreneurs and bloggers, if you are looking for an event to build your business from, I highly suggest you visit in August 2016, a truly can't miss retail trade show event.
